How to Start MATHCOUNTS at a School

1. Find a School

Search in our lists of registered schools and registered clubs. If a school is not listed, then it is not yet participating in MATHCOUNTS.

Complete the webform below and we'll send you a list of underserved schools in your area that aren't currently participating.

2. Reach Out

Once you've identified a school where you'd like to establish a MATHCOUNTS program, find the email or phone number of the principal, math teacher or math department head at the school.

Most school websites include faculty contact info. Refer to our key talking points for email suggestions.

3. Make the Case

Explain how the program works and why it's effective. If you're a MATHCOUNTS alum or parent of an alum, talk about your own positive experiences!

4. Work with a Teacher

If you're interested, consider offering to lead the school's MATHCOUNTS team or club. Many people also volunteer by working with a math teacher...

Your role might be to: plan and run meetings/practices and encourage the students.

The teacher's role might be to: recruit students, register, provide classroom space and chaperone the students.

5. Register

Work with school admins or a teacher to register the school as soon as possible. If you're working with a teacher, ensure both of you are listed on the registration.
