From program leads to competition support to scholarship judges, program volunteers make our math programs possible. There are many ways to get involved, and we welcome support from everyone, including parents, alumni, sponsors and math enthusiasts.

Competition Series
There are so many ways volunteers help us ensure our chapter, state and national competitions run smoothly. Competition volunteering includes scoring tests, helping with on-site check-in, passing out snacks/giveaways and presenting awards.

National Math Club
Volunteers with experience in STEM, education, communication, art or filmmaking review student-created math-based art, video and community service projects to determine which Gold Level clubs will receive additional prizes and recognition in our new Gold Level Honor Roll.

Math Resources
All year long, dozens of volunteers with a passion for math help us create resources for our educators and students to use—from Problems of the Week to math club games to our handbook. For these roles, volunteers are vetted to ensure they have the necessary math expertise and background.

Alumni Scholarships
Volunteers help us recognize and support amazing MATHCOUNTS alumni in high school and college by reviewing and scoring scholarship applications to help us determine finalists and winners.

Lead a MATHCOUNTS Program
Work with a middle school or extracurricular group in your community to establish a competition team or math club. Hold weekly or monthly practices to mentor and advise students.
Passion for math needed
Virtual or in-person, 1-5 hours per month
Problem of the Week (POTW) Author
Write a set of 2-3 math problems related to your area of work, a holiday or timely news event. POTW problems and solutions are posted online each week for grades 6-8 students and math teachers to use for free.
Math background needed
Virtual, 4-8 hours
Cannot be a middle or high school student
Club Activity Author
Create a game, math exploration or themed problem set for students and educators participating in the National Math Club! MATHCOUNTS adds club activities all year long for thousands of math clubs to use for free.

Scholarship App Reviewer
Read and score 10-20 applications for the MATHCOUNTS Alumni Scholarship. Reviewers are given a rubric and anonymized applications, and help us determine the semifinalists and finalists.
No special skills needed.

FEBRUARY
Chapter or State Competition Volunteer
Help out on-site at one of our fun, in-person chapter competitions across the country (February) or one of 56 state competitions (March). Our local coordinators often need volunteers to help on-site check-in, scoring and passing out awards/giveaways.

APRIL-MAY
National Competition Volunteer
Help out on-site at the 2023 Raytheon Technologies MATHCOUNTS National Competition, which takes place May 14-15 in Orlando, FL. We'll need volunteers to help with everything from scoring to chaperoning meals to check-in teams.

Planned in-person, 2-8 hours depending on role
Gold Level Honor Roll Project Reviewer
Review math-based art, video and community service projects submitted by Gold Level clubs. Reviewers are given a rubric to determine which Gold Level clubs will receive additional prizes and recognition in our new Gold Level Honor Roll.
