Registration Links

National competitors are the grades 6-8 students who earned a trip to this event based on their scores at their State Competition.

Official state team coaches are the educators who earned a trip to this event by leading the top team at their State Competition.

General guests include parents/guardians, unofficial coaches and all other guests. Members of the media should first reach out to Molly Gormley ([email protected]).

Chapter and state coordinators are the amazing volunteers who run 500+ chapter and state competitions in February and March.

MATHCOUNTS alumni get free admission to the Countdown Round!

When does the National Competition take place and what does it entail?

The 2024 RTX MATHCOUNTS National Competition will take place May 11-14 at the Westin Washington DC Downtown. This event is a celebration of the nation's brightest young mathematicians, bringing together 224 Mathletes who will participate in the finals of the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series.

I'm a national competitor, official coach or parent/guardian. What can I expect at this event?

Congratulations on making it to nationals! This event will be so much fun!

Please review the Digital Information Booklet for official teams, coaches and parents/guardians for more details about what to expect...from what to pack to travel arrangements! Please also look at the event schedule and check out photos and videos from last year's event

Each official team consists of 4 students and a coach who leads the team throughout the event. Teams participate (for free) in all public, special and team activities, meals and events. Please complete your registration as soon as possible so we can begin making travel/event arrangements.

Parents/guardians, as well as unofficial coaches, co-coaches and supporters are considered general guests and should register using the General Guests registration link at the top of this page.

I'm a parent/guardian of a national competitor but I'm not attending the event. What can I expect?

On Monday, May 13 at 10:00am ET, you can watch the webcast of the Countdown Round...check back at the MATHCOUNTS website for the webcast link to be posted that morning!

Our office and travel agent will work with you to make sure your student's travel arrangements have been made. Every effort will be made to make reservations so that the students and coach travel together.

Parents/guardians who would like to call their children during the competition may do so by calling the Westin Washington DC Downtown at 202-898-9000 and asking to be connected to their child’s room. If you want to check to see if your child has registered, you may call the Westin and ask to be connected to the MATHCOUNTS Registration Desk. We also recommend you get the phone numbers and email addresses for your child’s official state coach and state coordinator.

Which events are open to the general public, which events require a ticket, and which events are restricted to specific groups?

Open to the general public (with event registration):

  • Art of Problem Solving Seminar: Preparing Strong Math Students for College and Careers (Sunday, 5/12 at 9:30am ET)
  • Countdown Round (Monday, 5/13 at 10:00am ET)

Open to official teams and to any guests who have purchased additional tickets:

  • Buffet meals at the Westin (throughout the event)
  • MATHCOUNTS Party (Monday, 5/13 at 6:00pm ET)

Open only to official teams and approved event volunteers:

  • Coaches’ Meeting (Saturday, 5/11 at 6:15pm ET)
  • Team Meetings (Saturday, 5/11 at 8:00pm ET)
  • Written Competition (Sunday, 5/12 at 8:00am ET)

Open only to invited VIPs and guests:

  • Celebration Lunch (Monday, 5/13 at 12:30pm ET)

How much does it cost to attend this event?

For general guests, the cost to attend the National Competition is $50. After April 15, the registration fee increases to $60. This ticket includes admission into the AoPS Seminar on Sunday, May 12, and the Countdown Round on Monday, May 13. General guests also are responsible for making their own arrangements for lodging, travel and food.

Special guests and VIPs (by MATHCOUNTS invitation only) should register for free using the special invite link that was emailed in March. If you believe you should have received a VIP link but did not, please email Amanda Naar at [email protected]. MATHCOUNTS coordinators can also register for free using the designated link above.

For the 224 national competitors and the 56 official state team coaches, there is no cost to attend. Entry into all public, special and team events is covered, as well as meals from Saturday night through Tuesday morning, flight, ground transportation and hotel.

How much do extra meal, transportation and event tickets cost?

For the 224 national competitors and the 56 official state team coaches, there is no cost to attend. Entry into all public, special and team events is covered, as well as meals from Saturday night through Tuesday morning, flight, ground transportation and hotel.

During registration, general guests may purchase tickets to additional events, as well as meals at the Westin Washington DC Downtown and ground transportation. The costs for these are below.

Ground Transportation: On Saturday, complimentary airport transfers will be arranged to the Westin Washington DC Downtown for teams. Uniformed MATHCOUNTS representatives will greet teams at the baggage claim areas and direct them to the MATHCOUNTS shuttle. On Tuesday, MATHCOUNTS also will provide complimentary departure shuttles from the Westin Washington DC Downtown to the airport.

  • Guests may purchase seats on the shuttles transporting the teams to and from the hotel, as long as there is space available. Each one-way ticket costs $35.
  • Teams and guests are responsible for travel to/from their home airport. 
  • Teams arriving Friday or earlier will be responsible for making their own way from the airport to the hotel.
  • Teams not departing on Tuesday, May 14 will be responsible for making their own way from the hotel to the airport.

Meals: Guests who wish to purchase meal tickets to dine with the official teams may do so for selected meals. Guests can purchase admission to meals when they register online and pick up their meal tickets when they check in at the MATHCOUNTS Registration Desk at the Westin. Tickets also can be purchased on-site at the MATHCOUNTS Registration Desk. No guest will be allowed into the dining areas without a ticket.

  • Saturday Buffet Dinner (5/13 at 6:00pm ET): $59
  • Sunday Buffet Breakfast (5/14 at 7:30am ET): $62
  • Monday Buffet Breakfast (5/15 at 7:45am ET): $62
  • Monday Buffet Lunch (5/15 at 12:30pm ET): $75

Special Events: Guests who wish to purchase admission into special events may do so. Guests can purchase admission to special events when they register online and pick up their event tickets when they check in at the MATHCOUNTS Registration Desk at the Westin. Tickets also can be purchased on-site at the MATHCOUNTS Registration Desk, but we recommend purchasing tickets as soon as possible, since space is limited. No guest will be allowed into a special event without a ticket.

  • MATHCOUNTS Party & Dinner (5/13 at 6:00pm ET): $100

Are there discounts or free tickets available?

Yes! General guests who are approved to volunteer at the National Competition will receive a refund for their $50 registration fee. Guests who sign up to volunteer but are not approved are ineligible for this refund. During registration, general guests should indicate their interest to volunteer.

Special guests and VIPs who are invited by MATHCOUNTS to attend this event receive free admission and should register at the VIP portal using the special link provided by MATHCOUNTS. Please email Amanda Naar at [email protected] with any questions.

In addition, alumni of MATHCOUNTS who will be in the DC area should sign up at this page to receive free admission to the Countdown Round.

Official state team coaches and national competitors receive free entry to all public, special and team events, including meals at the Westin.

MATHCOUNTS coordinators who register using the link above receive free entry to all public events.

Is there a hotel block? How can I book a room?

The Westin Washington DC Downtown is the headquarters for the MATHCOUNTS National Competition.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Westin for MATHCOUNTS attendees at a special rate of $239 per night plus 14.95% room tax. The MATHCOUNTS block of rooms is available until the block is filled or April 19, 2024. Click here to book a room in our block.

How can I purchase event memorabilia for the National Competition?

General guests can purchase an event T-shirt ($20), a MATHCOUNTS baseball cap ($18), an event yearbook ($15), a MATHCOUNTS (M in STEM) sticker ($5), an event sticker ($3), and MATHCOUNTS branded thundersticks ($5) during online registration for the event. In addition, guests can purchase these items onsite at MATHCOUNTS Registration at the Westin, but we recommend purchasing these items as soon as possible, since quantities are limited.

The 224 national competitors and the 56 official state team coaches receive these items, plus some just-for-teams giveaways, for free.

What do guests need to know about COVID-19 and safety at this event?

MATHCOUNTS is committed to hosting a safe event for its students, coaches and guests and will host its events in accordance with all federal, state, and local COVID-19 requirements in place May 11-14, 2024. MATHCOUNTS also has the authority to impose additional mandates if it deems them necessary closer to the event dates. This could include a mask mandate, or a no-exemption policy should Washington, DC institute vaccination requirements, though as of February 15, 2024, none of these mandates or requirements is in place.

Guests are responsible for understanding and staying up-to-date on the COVID-19 restrictions/mandates for Washington, DC, as well as any additional requirements MATHCOUNTS communicates. Click here for information about DC's COVID-19 requirements. 

During registration, guests will receive a complete event agreement that affirms, among other things, that they understand their attendance at the National Competition is voluntary, and that their participation in National Competition events includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19.

MATHCOUNTS requires a background check for each official state team coach participating in the 2024 National Competition. Each MATHCOUNTS national staff member attending the event also has undergone a background check.

What is the photo/video policy for event attendees?

By registering to attend the MATHCOUNTS National Competition (as an official state team coach, national competitor or any other guest), attendees grant full permission to any MATHCOUNTS organizers, competition staff/presenters, promoters, volunteers, sponsors or agents authorized by said persons and entities, to use photographs, videos or any other records of MATHCOUNTS competitions, including their name, likeness, or voice for any legitimate purpose without compensation or remuneration to the attendee, their heirs, executors, administrators or assigns.

What is the MATHCOUNTS Foundation's non-discrimination policy?

The MATHCOUNTS Foundation makes its products, programs and services available on a nondiscriminatory basis. MATHCOUNTS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, physical disability or ethnic origin.
