For this Opposite Day (Jan. 25) activity, students use inverse operations to work through expression strings to find "mystery numbers." Go even further with some friendly competition using Mathlete-generated expression strings.

Materials Needed
  • 1 problem set
  • 50-75 pieces of paper (scraps, partial sheets or post-its)
  • Markers
  • Tape
  • Wall or board where you can tape operation directions

schools and non-school groups. If you're a volunteer or educator leading 4 or more students in grades 6-8, you're likely eligible.
