MARBLE CHALLENGE - PUBLIC RECAP
Game Recap
The Marble Challenge is a strategy game in which Mathletes take turns removing marbles with the goal of forcing their opponent to have to take the last marble! Inspired by the student-created video that won the 2015-2016 Math Video Challenge (discontinued in 2023-2024), this game encourages students to notice patterns and can even be used to introduce modular arithmetic. Bonus: This activity includes Google Classroom-compatible resources.
Materials Needed
- 1 game board per pair of students
- 1 writing utensil per student
- #Marble Challenge video to watch after playing the game
- Scratch paper (optional)
- 56 marbles or other small items like paper clips or paper scraps (optional)
