MATHCOUNTS Alumni Scholarship

MATHCOUNTS Alumni Scholarship

We know that an experience in MATHCOUNTS can be transformative and incredibly meaningful for a student. MATHCOUNTS can change opinions about mathematics. It can lead a student to a career in science, engineering, technology or mathematics. It can build critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are invaluable to success in the future. In short, it can help a student realize no less than his or her full potential.

The MATHCOUNTS Alumni Scholarship is a $3,000 award presented to an outstanding alumnus/a whose experience in a MATHCOUNTS program had an impact on his/her outlook on math and influenced his/her academic or professional pursuits. Created in 2014, this scholarship ensures that MATHCOUNTS can recognize the work of talented alumni and continue to expand their academic and professional opportunities.

You can see profiles and lists of past scholarship winners and finalists here.

Scholarship Eligibility

This scholarship is open to MATHCOUNTS alumni who are currently seniors in high school or students pursuing a two-year or four-year degree at an accredited college or university.

A current high school senior refers to a student who is currently enrolled in school and who will graduate in the spring/summer of 2018. All students currently pursuing a two-year (Associates) or four-year (Bachelors) degree at an accredited college or university—regardless of their current year in the program—are eligible for this scholarship. In the case of college/university students who will graduate in 2018, the scholarship award can be put toward existing tuition bills or graduate school.

A MATHCOUNTS alumnus/a is a person who participated in a MATHCOUNTS program at any time during 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade. These include the following:

Award Disbursement

The entire $3,000 award will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient’s college or university. The award can be disbursed either as a one-time payment to the college or university, or as installments (for example, $750 per year to a four-year college or university). The recipient of this scholarship will not receive the award directly; if the scholarship recipient decides not to pursue a two-year or four-year degree at an accredited college of university, then his/her scholarship award will be invalidated.
